Ford Mustang Boss 302

          The Ford Boss 302 Mustang is an incredibly high performance variation of the original Ford Mustang manufactured in both 1969 and  for 1970 editions. Ford later brought back the Boss for the 2012 model year. Most people don’t know this, but it was actually produced for the Trans Am racing series back in the late 60′s.

First generation Mustang Boss 302 (1969–1970)

          The Mustang vs Camaro head to head rivalry started back in 1967 when Chevy introduced the Camaro, produced by GM. At the time, the Chevrolet Camaro was the biggest threat to the amazing lead that Ford had in the category of “pony car”. This market segment was pretty much lead by Ford when they created the Mustang in 1964.

          Originally, the Camaro outperformed the Mustang despite its 289hp and 390hp engines. It also had a small and big blovk v8 to go with. So Ford tried to beef up its image and created some new options in the form of a 428 Cobra Jet V8 back in 1968 and later again in 69. This was where we saw the introduction of the Ford Mustang Boss 302 engine in full effect! This new engine, which was an option, became available really for the purpose of competing with the Trans-Am while sticking to the homologation guidelines.

Second generation Mustang Boss 302 (2012–current)

          In 2012, Ford brought back the Boss 302 name in big fashion! See back in 2011, the Ford mustang GT had a 5.0 liter V8 with some extra features like a new intake system, CNC ported heads, a forged rotating assembly, as well as a high flow intake originally used in the 302R racecar. This bad boy cranks out a whopping 444 hp which was more than 30hp more than the standard Mustang GT. Although, in comparison to the standard GT, the 2012 Boss has about 10 lb·ft less torgue.
